In the Morning

I’m not a morning person, but I’ve arranged my schedule so that most of my work is done no later than noon on most days.

Some time ago, I remarked about needing to establish a daily schedule, and I’ve finally managed to do it.

I’m awake on most mornings no later than 7:30. I’ll have a banana or raisins and a bottle of cold water because drinking cold water on an empty stomach can boost metabolism 25 percent for the next hour and a half.

After that snack, it’s time for yoga, followed by a quick strength & conditioning workout and cardio.

I’ll shower, of course, and have a protein shake for breakfast while I check out Google Reader and my favorite sites.

I consider myself an email ninja and revel in having an empty inbox. I love email. For that reason, I could never outsource the inbox. In fact, I’d much rather email or text than phone (just ask Angel) because I can do a lot more while I reply to a message. During a phone conversation, though, I have to actually pay attention and listen to what’s being said and am expected to respond accordingly. But I digress.

I check email twice on most days, and although my BlackBerry is connected to three of my addresses, I’m only alerted by a flashing light so it doesn’t automatically force me to check email. My phone’s email address does play a tone, but not many people have that address so the alert, the Flashing Lights (Man, I love that song) intro, for that is seldom heard. By 10:30, I’m usually wrapping up email and I’m soon gathering info for posts on Concrete Loop.

I’ll work on those, and some for this site, until around noon, which is around the time I call it a day unless I’m working on a special feature or project.

AS a fellow Blogger I wish it were that simple…Since I have a Day Job its pretty unrealistic for me to have it that easy….done by noon? Thats a Good Look!

Yeah, I’ll probably have to adjust my schedule when fall comes.

No problem. I bet you thought I had forgotten or didn’t even know I had been tagged. Haha.
    So, what’s your morning routine?

Didnt know about the cold water. Maybe I’ll incorporate that in my morning routine. Ledisi’s “In the Morning” is in heavy rotation.

hm, i go to work at 8am, so my morning routine is very short:

6:30am - wake up, shower, brush teeth, etc.

7am - breakfast (one scrambled egg, toast, apple) and watch news

    7:30am - leave for work

so, (if you don’t mind me asking) if you wrap up at noon, what exactly are you doing for the remainder of the day and into the evening? It would take me all day to do the things you do in the morning, lol.

Regarding the cold water tip…are you supposed to be exercising during the hour and a half? If I’m just sitting around and my stomach starts rumbling, I won’t make it through the hour and a half. I need to eat!

I try and schedule appointments, meetings and such during the afternoon.

More often than not, though, I’ll still have some posts to finish in the evening…especially when Wednesday rolls around and I’m working on a Black History Spotlight. If I weren’t such a huge procrastinator, I would be completely done by noon.

I’m not really sure about that, Cortney. I just make it a point to drink a cold bottle of water first thing when I wake up, but since I’ll be working out, and you should never work out on an empty stomach, I eat a banana or some raisins. My guess would be that since you’re metabolism has sped up, I don’t see why you couldn’t eat something.

I’m up at 4:30AM and I turn on the TV and listen to the 700 Club, Infomercials, or Music on VH1/MTV depending on my mood.

Get dressed and ready and I’m out the door by 5:30.

Get in the car, turn the IPOD to the appropriate “GET UP GIRL!” mix and stop by my local Mickey D’s for a medium coffee (3 creams, 5 sugars) and then Chick Fil A for a Large Fruit Cup. Arrive at work at 6AM, check email, create a plan for the day.

[…] My morning routine consists of waking up to my ring tone / alarm “Champion” by Kanye West. After maybe getting readjusted out of my slumber and hoping the sun goes back down quick enough where I can forget about work, I crawl out, hit my computer’s on-button, wash my face, brush my teeth, scramble for a big bowl of Raisin Bran / Frosted Flakes / Lucky Charms / Apple Jacks / Honey Nut Cheerios, dump in some milk, and plop down in front of the TV for some NY1 News in the Morning, or ESPN depending on how interested I was in the sporting events of the previous night. It’s been this day almost everyday for the past 3 years minus weekends and most of my vacation days. I also check up on my e-mail, make a big note to myself about how I’m going to walk into my classroom today, what am I going to realistically do for the train ride to my school, and even have time to respond to a couple of friend requests, Twitters, e-mails, and messages. […]
